“Ever since the time of Jesus, wine has been part of special occasions and it has been regarded as something special. Wine has been part of our lives especially on celebrations like birthdays, anniversaries, weddings and even on Jesus’ Last Supper. It has been studied by many medical doctors and scientists and they have come up with a conclusion that wine, indeed, when taken moderately, is good for one’s health. But when you drink wine in excessive amounts, the results can be devastating especially on our health, The worst part is, it can be deadly.

Here are reasons why you should be responsible drinkers:

1. Alcohol- Remember, wine has alcohol and starch fermented and when you take excessive amounts, your health can be vulnerable.

2. Accidents- When people get drunk and they drive, they usually meet accidents. We usually read about drunk drivers killing an innocent bystander or drunk driver killed in a car crash in papers and in television news programs. You should be a responsible drinker, don’t drink and drive or don’t drive and drink. However, people are still reckless and they still drink and drive. Because of this lack of responsibility, many innocent people are dragged into the mess like those accidents.

3. Health- Drinking too much wine can cause health problems like alcoholic hepatitis and fatty liver disease, cirrhosis of the liver, cancer, ulcer, and fetal alcohol syndrome for pregnant women. Worse, the child could end up with mental or physical disabilities.

4. Mental- Taking too much alcohol can lead to alcohol dependency. This is when your body starts craving for alcohol. You become addicted to it and your personal life can even be affected. You will be losing your friends and your family. You will also be putting your career that you have worked so hard all your life in danger. Taking too much alcohol can lead to mental conditions like insomnia, memory loss and depression.

Wine is refreshing, stimulating and relaxing when taken responsibly. But how many glasses of wine is considered moderate drinking? Studies have shown that drinking two to three glasses of wine daily is good for our health but anything more than that is considered excess and can be deadly. And one more thing to take note of is, consuming wine after meals is recommended. Drinking wine on an empty stomach is also not good for your health it can cause thinning of your intestines and ulcers. So when you are planning to go out with your friends or with someone special, don’t forget to drink wine in moderate amounts and don’t drink and drive.
